Rising STAR

The Rising Star program is geared towards skaters with an interest in figure skating who have prior skating experience and have completed Stage 3 in CanSkate or been approved by the coaching team to participate in the program. In Rising Star, skaters participate in 45 minute-long practice sessions twice a week, starting in September. Sessions in the Rising Star program are done in a group setting to encourage cooperation between skaters and allow them to motivate each other to reach their goals, all while providing opportunity for one-on-one instruction time with a trained NCCP coach.

This program is a great transition from CanSkate into the StarSkate program. The 45-minute instruction time includes a 15-minute group stroking lesson focusing on some of the essential components of skating: power, edge development, endurance, flexibility, and musicality.

Additionally, within the 45-minute instructional period, skaters will work with a coach on skills from Stages 4, 5, and 6 of the CanSkate program within the three fundamental areas of balance, control, and agility. Skaters will also be introduced to skills from early StarSkate levels.

**All skaters must wear a CSA approved helmet until they have passed their Stage 5 CanSkate badge.
Skate Canada Professional Coaches will assess your skater throughout the session and let you know when they are ready to remove their helmet.

Rising Star Skaters will be learning basic figure skating skills. It is important that your child have a proper fitting pair of figure skates to be successful with these new skills. Skates that are too big, too small or without proper support will make skating more difficult for your young athlete. If you have questions about skates, please speak with a Skate Canada Professional Coach about proper fit and support.

Junior STAR

Our Junior Star program builds on fundamentals learned in CanSkate. It is designed to help the skater's transition from the Canskate learn to skate program to the more advanced StarSkate program for those skaters wanting to continue on to figure skating.

By providing instruction through group lessons it keeps costs lower and helps with the transition into private lessons when they are ready to move on to StarSkate. Junior Star introduces the skater to the preliminary level skating skills of stroking, free skate, dance and skills.
